Chapter 3 · Indexing of Datapoint lists (for BMS)

Index a datapoint list

Datapoint indexing lets you onboard a large number of datapoints at once. It also adds extra context to the datapoints, so they can later be used to generate dashboards or configure predictive control.

If you are connecting the Link to a BMS, you must onboard its datapoints to the platform, using the EDE file or datapoint list of the BMS.

The Link can only index datapoints it knows about. If the installation has room controllers that are relevant, make sure they are also in the EDE file.

Indexing is done per BMS. If the building has several BMSs, do the indexing for each one of them.

You can do the indexing before or after connecting the Link on site (see Install the Link). Until the Link is connected, the indexed datapoints show no values yet.

Prepare the file

EDE files and datapoint lists sometimes have extra rows above the useful ones. Before you upload the file, format the CSV so that the first row holds the column names: delete any rows above it.

Choose your protocol

What you need depends on the protocol of the BMS. Each protocol has its own page:

Protocol What you need
BACnet IP The EDE file of the BMS
Modbus TCP The datapoint list of the BMS
Modbus RTU The datapoint list of the BMS
