Energy Link develops a smart solution for the overloaded electricity grid in the south of the Netherlands

Businesses in the south of the Netherlands are increasingly running into the limits of the electricity grid. Due to a shortage of available power capacity, they cannot make their operations more sustainable or expand them. The Energy Link project is therefore working on a smart and scalable solution that allows buildings to adjust their energy consumption flexibly. Using artificial intelligence (AI) and Model Predictive Control (MPC), the technology aims to reduce peak loads on the electricity grid and create room for new developments.

Within the project, the technology is being tested in ten buildings. The knowledge gained forms the basis for the further development of Smart Energy Hubs: clusters of buildings that jointly align their energy consumption and generation. In this way, available grid capacity can be used as efficiently as possible.

To this end, Energy Link brings together different parties. Integer Technologies, TU/e, DWA, Avans, CSB and BRAVO!College are working together on the technological development, the necessary legal and organisational frameworks, and training programmes for installers. Topics such as the European NIS2 directive are also taken into account.

With this integrated approach, Energy Link aims to contribute to a future-proof and resilient energy system. By controlling energy more intelligently and letting buildings work together better, more room is created on the electricity grid and businesses can continue to become more sustainable and grow.
