Companies in the Southern Netherlands are increasingly encountering the limits of the electricity grid. Due to a shortage of available power capacity, they are unable to make their operations more sustainable or expand. The Energy Link project is therefore working on a smart and scalable solution that allows buildings to flexibly adjust their energy consumption. Using artificial intelligence (AI) and Model Predictive Control (MPC), the technology aims to reduce peak loads on the electricity grid and create space for new developments.
Within the project, the technology is being tested in ten buildings. The knowledge gained forms the basis for the further development of Smart Energy Hubs: clusters of buildings that collectively coordinate their energy consumption and generation. This allows available grid capacity to be utilized as efficiently as possible.
Energy Link brings various parties together for this purpose. Integer Technologies, TU/e, DWA, Avans, CSB, and BRAVO!College are working together on technological development, the necessary legal and organizational frameworks, and training programs for installers. Topics such as the European NIS2 directive are also included in this scope.
With this integrated approach, Energy Link aims to contribute to a future-proof and resilient energy system. By managing energy more intelligently and enabling buildings to collaborate more effectively, more space is created on the electricity grid, allowing companies to continue to grow and become more sustainable.
